Australian Alliance for Data Leadership (AADL) and its network of associations, ADMA, DGA, D+TC and IAPA is looking to hire a Compliance and Regulatory Affairs Manager.

**This role is permanent part-time - 3 days per week**


Main Purpose of Job

The role of Manager – Compliance & Regulatory Affairs has the following key functions:

  • Industry spokesperson for AADL on privacy and regulatory issues relating to data including governance, privacy, protection, analytics, and data-driven marketing
  • Government relations and Industry representation and advocacy for Australian organisations and the data-driven marketing industry, including submissions and participation in regulatory meetings
  • Monitoring national and international legislation, regulation, leading practice, industry issues, and assessing industry impact
  • Development and management of self-regulatory initiatives, including codes of conduct, guidelines and leading principles
  • Managing and developing the Compliance Hub, a member-only online resource on regulatory matters, with a view to ensuring DGA and ADMA are the ‘go to’ resource for Australian organisations and marketers with data compliance needs
  • Development and delivery of compliance resources to assist organisations with compliance efforts
  • Providing expertise and general guidance to member companies on legal and regulatory issues relating to data governance, marketing and advertising
  • Managing complaint handling programs
  • Establishing and managing Member advisory committees to gain feedback and support for regulatory initiatives
  • Providing regulatory content for AADL newsletters, websites and similar
  • Miscellaneous activities in relation to the above.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Responsible for: Leading the regulatory offerings of AADL and its constituent associations
Main Relationships: Chief Executive Officer, MD, ADMA, MD, DGA, Commercial Director, GM Marketing, Stakeholder Relations Manager

Brief Description of Role

While AADL and its constituent associations provide various benefits to its members and the wider community in relation to all things data, the regulatory component thereof is one of the most important of AADL’s offerings.

The Manager – Compliance & Regulatory Affairs is responsible for representing the interests of Australian organisations in relation to data governance, marketing and advertising to ensure that high standards of practice are maintained, general compliance guidance is given and that the industry is not adversely impacted or restricted by legislation or regulation, rather provided with a competitive edge. This includes ensuring that consumers’ privacy and dignity is protected while delivering them enhanced products and services.

In doing so, the Manager – Compliance & Regulatory Affairs needs to develop, lead and manage innovative self-regulatory initiatives and gain stakeholder buy-in. A key element of the job is to build and maintain strong relationships with government and regulators to ensure the interests of the industry can be effectively represented. In addition, a crucial part of this role is to find interesting and engaging ways to keep Australian organisations and the marketing/ advertising community up-to-date with the latest legislative and regulatory developments in Australia and overseas and to assist in compliance efforts, including development of newsletters, events, videos, webinars etc.

The Manager- Compliance & Regulatory Affairs is responsible for ensuring AADL remains at the forefront of privacy issues and is the ‘go-to’ resource for Australian business and marketers with compliance and related requirements. The role will also oversee all internal self-regulatory initiatives and complaint handling functions.

Travel

  • Overnight interstate travel will be required

Personal Specification

Experience - Essential

  • 5+ years’ experience in a legal, regulatory or compliance role
  • Previous government relations, regulatory affairs or policy role and demonstrable experience in establishing government, media and stakeholder relationships
  • Understanding of data governance, protection, marketing, advertising and new technology
  • Interest in new and emerging technology
  • Experience in developing and delivering innovative self-regulatory initiatives
  • Ability to develop, manage and lead large industry initiatives with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in interpreting legislation and assessing impact on stakeholder groups
  • Capability to provide clear, concise verbal and written advice

Experience - Desirable

  • Experience in developing Codes of Practice, leading practice guidelines, compliance tools and resources
  • Experience in working with complaints handling

Skills and abilities - Essential

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent presentation style and ability
  • Advanced time management skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Media trained (desirable)

Knowledge - Essential

  • Understanding of Australian legal system and political landscape
  • Good knowledge of data governance and related issues including marketing, advertising and technology

Education/Training - Essential

  • Minimum 5 years commercial experience
  • Worked within the media/ marketing / advertising/ new technology / regulatory affairs
