ACCC Chairman Graeme Samuel has said “The ACCC has taken the preliminary view that it should not object to Australia Post’s revised proposal. In forming this view the ACCC notes Australia Post is expecting to incur losses on its monopoly services. The ACCC has also taken into account the benefits of the revised proposal, including the changes to Off Peak services.”
The price increase will not affect the basic postage rate of 60 cents or the price of Ordinary letters however it will increase the prices of business mail services, including PreSort services which provide discounts to wholesale bulk mail customers.
The proposed changes to will take effect on 4 July 2011 and were varied by Australia Post on 16 May 2011 from its original proposal.
